I just bought my new 4K TV. Do I need an expensive ultra HD cable to go with it?
If you have ever purchased a TV from Best Buy, you have probably been offered a high speed HDMI cable. It can cost from $15 to over $100, and they highly recommend a 4K Ultra HD cable. From a consumer standpoint, it is important to know if using a gold-plated Ultra HD cable provides you with a better picture or not. Is it worth it to spend an extra $85 on a special HDMI cable?
The answer is no.
The standard HDMI cable today is an HDMI 2.0. These have been around for over five years. High speed HDMI cables can already handle 4K content at 30 fps and have been able to do so ever since the “high speed HDMI cable” has been available.
There are some legitimate price variations at Best Buy, as a result of different cables’ flexibility and durability, but in terms of picture quality, any HDMI 2.0 high speed cable, whether it be the $5 cable offered at Best Deal In Town, or the 4K Pearl cables for $200, the picture quality will look as beautiful as the source (Your DVD player, your cable box, etc.) permits.
